The terrorists Saddam had truck with were secular, descended from old Arab groups once funded by the USSR.

Many of the groups Saddam supported where at least nominally secular, but he also rewarded suicide bombers, secular or fundamentalist, or in between, by giving their families payouts. Sure those where attacks on Israel not the US, but its still terrorism.

And people from "secular" Arab terrorist groups have killed Americans.
