"The bachelor's degree? It's America's most overrated product," As a college graduate, I agree. My education was more practical than most, as a significant part of it required one to live in a camp environment out in the woods, and many of the classes were 'hands-on' type experiences. Dropouts from my field went into education, journalism, or liberal arts where the requirements were less demanding. Between my wife, daughter and me there are three bachelor's degrees and 90% of a master's. My son went to junior college for a quarter and he makes more than all three of us put together ever did. The surest way to devalue a college degree to zero is to give everybody one, as Obama wants to do. That is an absurd objective, and he should know better. There is definitely a place for college education, and people lucky enough to get one not contaminated by the likes of Ward Churchill or overzealous university presidents are indeed enriched. The classes that I enjoyed most in college were the liberal arts courses: English, journalism, music appreciation, and so forth. They enriched my personal life. I have no illusions that they would help me earn a living.
