"Great summary of where we are headed!!

Like many here, I read a lot of financial news. I'm up every morning in front of the computer and stay there most of the day until the markets close. I am amazed how thoroughly matters of climate change have been moved down the news agenda since the "financial crisis" kicked into gear. Almost all analysis in the business press focuses on turning around the world economy. People talk about re-starting the economy, jobs, getting housing prices stabilized, inflation, deflation, etc. Some, like Slider and others, talk about how civil rights will erode as a result of this "crisis" and the steps taken to re mediate it. People who are worried about continuing and accelerated loss of arable land, fresh water, huge population dislocations, rising sea levels, etc....don't get much press anymore.

People are so scared it seems like they'll put up with almost anything as long as we can get "back to where we were before".

People like Obama talk about incorporating a few billion dollars for green infrastructure as part of a stimulus but, if you can take at face value the overwhelming majority of scientists who study climate change, we are going to need an order of magnitude more than that. And it has to happen now, not twelve or twenty-four quarters from now when the economy starts to grow again.

Whether one agrees whether humans contribute to climate change or not, it is happening. If we are contributing, we need to start making changes ASAP. Building bridges and roads and giving out stimulus checks is not going to help a thing. This guy gives a comprehensive summary of what we're up against.

jim,

Do you agree with the author that hyperinflation and "Depression" are mutually exclusive? That seems to be the gist of his column.
