OK I just ordered it at the library. Problem is.........I probably won't get it for a year. There are 126 people in front of me.

I think it depends upon what you are interested in. Our oldest was the one who inspired us. He read it and told us to read it (several times), so I think both male and female will enjoy it. Our daughter read it and thought the first half of the book could have been edited to a faster pace, but she liked the remainder also. My husband and son-in-law both read it. I was in the 50's for number of people ahead of me at the library. The library still has a large number reserved on several copies. It has remained popular :)
