Well, it is a bill written by the majority in the House. One can expect, since they won the election, it will have more of their "stuff" in it. There were more than a few provisions for the House Republicans, central among them some tax cuts for small business, tax cuts for middle class American families that both parties can agree on, and some others which escape my mind right now.

I think the House Reps are painting themselves into a deeper corner all the time. The vote on the transition to digital TV is yet another illustration.

They are losing the political chess game to the master player, Obama, right now.

I think it is that liberal stuff that they find unacceptable

They found everything that wasn't a tax cut unacceptable and not one member of the minority party voted for the watered down bill after Obama bent over backwards for them.

Next time, he'd better his shoeshine kit and act they expect him to act now that they know he will cave so easily.

There is awful lot of social welfare stuff in the stimulus bill that has nothing to do with job creation. (Lets out of work people go on Medicaid for their Health Insurance WITHOUT ANY RESORT to any income test. This is a fundamental alteration of the Medicaid program and yet it is being wrapped up in the stimulus bill so Medicaid's expansion into uncharted waters can't be debated) If we are going to become a social welfare state we should at least do it consciously and not let it creep in on little cat's feet. Not sure this is what the swing vote intended when they voted for Obama.
