But looking at the record, this is not and has not been what the Republicans have stood for in the 30+ years I've been voting. The historic record (published many times on this thread and others) shows they have never been the party of reduced spending, but rather spending that exceeds income. Now that we're all in the crapper (largely by their doing) they don't want us to climb out - their party and its actions have put us here and spent our surplus. The surplus is supposed to carry you through the bad times. They spent it during the good on wars declared in bad faith and that were sold as being paid for by the spoils of war. They should give the rest of us a few months to right the ship before they start whining. JMO.
