I know you hate government in all its shapes and forms,

You don't know squat. I have never stated anything to that effect.

but government is necessary

Of course it is, and the Founders of this country had a good idea as to the proper function and extent of same, the rule and application of just law being one of these functions.

The gangrenous, cancerous monster that it's grown into, the one that's ruled by the power hungry, scum bag filth that infests Washington DC and is devouring our freedoms, economic wealth and prospects for a better future for the generations to come, is another matter altogether.

The power of the state used to be bound and constrained by the Constitution. That is no longer the case. The citizens are now bound by the power of the state. Reality can be a cruel mistress, a fact that you state worshipers will be facing, sooner or later..

f what you want is a laissez faire energy economy, then we'll be right back to the days of Enron.

Enron happened in the context of having a DoE, and many financial reporting requirements and other regulations. It violated the regs, it didn't get by on what it did because the regs where not there. Deregulation has essentially nothing to do with it.
