I think Ten means we have to fight meaningless, pissing match foreign wars as a kind of sacrifice to prevent the bad guys from invading America and stealing our freedoms. I guess he thinks that if they can drive to some nearby country and kill Dave's son, they'll be satisfied and will leave him alone in the OC.
