It's the eternal Canadian question -- east/west vs. north/south.

Yes, Canada exports oil from the west and imports it into the east, a function of our ribbon-esque geography. It makes more sense to do it that way.

I see the Obama administration has fired the first protectionist shot with their demand that all steel for the United Statian infrastructure programme be manufactured in the US. I haven't been able to find out yet whether that abrogates NAFTA or GATT.

Actually, for the east, Canada has been using oil from Venezuela for decades.

Not sure how much of Nfld's oil now goes to eastern Canada refineries.

There are big refineries, including Joey Smallwood's once ill-fated refinery at Come-By-Chance Nfld, KC Irving's at St. John NB (largest in Canada), and another at Port Hawkesbury, NS.

Not that the fishermen like it, but that's the way it is.
