Hawk, be realistic. There is never hard evidence or guarantees that any course of action, any new company, or any new industry is going to be successful. If entrepreneurs waited for irrefutable proof that a product would be successful, the chances are very high that someone else already beat them to the punch and they missed the opportunity.

You want proof that this industry is going to be big? Start reading what's happening in other countries. Some of the largest companies in Japan and South Korea are ramping up automotive battery manufacturing in a very big way to prepare for the coming electrification of the car industry. All of the major car manufacturers will have an electric car or hybrid on the road in the next two years. Solar firms are popping up everywhere. Alternative energy companies may be the only ones left that are still hiring in this economy. VCs in Silicon Valley and private investment in alternative energy has a couple of banner years, even as investment in other industries withered.

So with all this evidence, you have to ask yourself, are all these people stupid or crazy or both? Or have they done the analysis, calculated the probabilities, and made their bets based on a clearly defined vision and strategy?

I don't know about you, but I don't believe in conspiracies. Where there is smoke, there is fire, and it's pretty clear to me that the alternative energy fire is about to get a whole lot hotter. For 2010-20, renewables will be the place to be, just like the Internet and IT was the place to be in the 90's.
