BamaReb--Since you have failed to keep up with your little known Civil War facts I will take over. Fair warning: you may notice a certain Yankee leaning to them.
Though a number of soldiers on both sides were superb shots the units most noted for their marksmanship skills were the two Union regiments of the Army of the Potomac known as Berdan's Sharpshooters. All soldiers in these regiments had to pass a tough marksmanship test and they were reknowned on both sides for their skill.
Late in the war two soldiers of one of these regiments fired at a fleeing rebel at over 700 yards, both claiming to have shot him when he fell. The rebel was found to have been hit by both men. Other than sniping by trained men with specialized rifles this is the most remarkable display of sharpshooting I am aware of in the war.
