Hugh, you're talking about Oxycontin. From what I understand it gives about the same buzz as heroin. It seems to also have some serious side effects since Rush has apparently lost his hearing.

He lost his hearing before that was known, hearing loss is not a common side effect, certainly not complete deafness. It was an autoimmune disorder and I believer that was verified by the state attorney as it was not used against him.

The office I go to has different Doctors, and I see whomever is available, but I only have ONE chart and they all work from that chart. If the Doctors in Rush's office were EACH independently treating him without paying any attention to what the other Doctors in that same office were prescribing, then those guys should ALL lose their licenses because you can KILL somebody by doubling up on some medications.

They were using the same chart, however I do recall he also got pills from a New York office as well, though I don't know if that could be used against him.

Hugh, I seriously doubt that "poor guys" are getting Massive doses of Oxycontin from Medicaid. If they are then the doctors that are giving it to them should lose their licenses and be jailed.

They do. Often, especially if older it is even legal. No worry about addiction when you are terminally ill. Even then doctors simply screw up and don't pay enough attention. There also has been a very few doctors who have gotten in trouble over this often associated with medicaid scams.

"From what I understand it gives about the same buzz as heroin."

Oxycodone, the active ingredient in Oxycontin, is almost identical to codeine. Which means it is an opiate just like heroin. What makes Oxycontin special is that it is time release, so it is available in much larger doses than stuff like Demerol. The difference is quite large, stuff like Demerol maxes about 30 milligrams, while Oxycontin goes all the way to 160 mg. It is supposed to have a lower chance of abuse because instead of getting a peak right after you take it that declines until you take your next pill, it releases a steady dose over a period of time.

Unless you crush the tablet, in which case it releases all of its opiate goodness all in one dose. Rush allegedly was taking 30 of these little beauties a day.

He is lucky he didn't die.

FWIW, until recently, Florida had a mandatory sentence for illegal possession of Oxycontin of 25 years. Which, I am sure, Rush wasn't interested in.
