With light rail, capacity can be increased significantly by simply adding more cars.

If your using far fewer cars than the capacity of the line, than your passenger levels per area used isn't high. If you've nearly maxed out the lines capacity than you can't increase passenger levels significantly by simply adding more cars.


Unlike freeways, no lite rail line opens up anywhere near capacity.....at least not at the present. Therefore, they have plenty of room to grow.

To the extent that you really do need more roads you can take the capital cost of the rail system and use it to build more roads or more lanes.

No, you can't. Those days of building freeways thru existing neighborhoods are over.
