The math not adding up, is not minutia. If the male and female percentages don't fit with the overall percentage, the whole study, or at least the presentation of it they made available and you linked to, is worthless.

"For the overall rates to correspond to the male and female rates, the veteran pool would have to be 62% to 64% female, and the non veteran pool would have to be about 66% female. "

Only 7% of veterans are female. The general population only has a very small majority of females. They could be using a distorted sample, but that itself would be a weakness in the study.
