"the email said this."

Sober up.

Yes, I know.

However, Snopes did not validate these two, despite the claim.

"Star-Kist is owned by Del Monte Foods and is a major contributor to Pelosi."

Star Kist is not currently owned by Del Monte. Del Monte did own Star Kist in 2007 and is and was not a major contributor to Pelosi.

"Paul Pelosi, Nancy 's husband, owns $17 million dollars of Del Monte stock."

Can't be done with publicly available information. Might be true, might not.

"Last week when the huge bailout bill was passed, Pelosi added an earmark to the final bill adding $33 million dollars for an 'economic development credit in American Samoa'."

Correct, that happened. But, since Del Monte doesn't own Star Kist any more, why is this supposed to be some sort of smoking gun?

Here is the opinion of my buddy Bob about how to reform the Congress and put an end to the process of self feeding pork.

Taro

"Surprise, surprise. When politicians make laws in this country, they amazingly often exempt themselves and/or their favored constituents. Congress itself (meaning its
members) get special treatment in many areas, including health care and retirement benefits.

I have long believed we should reform congress in at least these four ways:

1. Stop paying them anything more than for their expenses.
Reason - pay for congress should follow supply and demand, just like the businesses they purport to regulate.
There is plenty of supply of would-be congress members; many people would be willing to serve without pay.

2. Disqualify lawyers from serving in Congress. I'd prefer simple people with common sense. You don't need great education and IQ to serve well - just common sense. Add a few attorneys to your staff, and you're ready to go.
Ronald Reagan was not the sharpest tool in the box, and was no attorney, but he had a lot of common sense, and he did a great job as POTUS.

3. Limit service to 12 years. No more career congressmen.

4. Disallow any benefits that differ from those of the common man. No special health-care plans, no special retirement plans. No exemption from social security.
They should feel the exact same pressures as the common citizens they purport to serve."
