Let's suppose I have purchased a Compaq running a virgin Windows95 with an equally celebate Office97. If one fine day an irregularity in the software wipes out some critical file resulting in a financial loss, are they (MSFT) liable?

Ever read a shrink-wrap license Norm? Where it says, basicly, that the vendor is responsible for providing readable media containing the program, and that's about it? I imagine there's a law or two, either already passed or winding its way through congress, making sure that Microsoft, at least, is properly protected on the liability front.

Cheers, Dan.
