After all the actual violence and demonstrations and head bashing I think we collectively decided to take a step back--Reagan probably was culturally what we needed at the time. A throw back to the time when the streets were swept and people respected some boundaries. But I digress.

I think Seminole 83 may have a point about ammo plants, but then again my views were formed in a different era.

"The Panthers would have fallen over dead (from shock) to see our new black president :-)"

No more than the rest of us. But they played a role in his career...

The rise of Barack Obama includes one glaring episode of political miscalculation. Even friends told Mr. Obama it was a bad idea when he decided in 1999 to challenge an incumbent congressman and former Black Panther, Bobby L. Rush, whose stronghold on the South Side of Chicago was overwhelmingly black, Democratic and working class.
