>>My parakeet admires himself endlessly in his mirror. It doesn't make him morally superior to the other parakeets. It just means he's a birdbrain.

We're finally old enough to be of the generation where we're the same age as the old fools who lecture us ad nauseum and ad infinitum at the nearest waffle and pancake joint, while scarfing down their senior discount breakfasts.

Personally, I can't think of anything more boring than being lectured by the self-described morally superior, but the only thing we can do is walk away. Briskly. With harsh cries of "you arrogant whipper-snapper" echoing behind us.

They're too creaky, too ancient, to actually hobble after us on their canes, and if they were able to hobble after us, they couldn't catch us. There's something about not always being in the "in crowd," those au courant, that keeps us on our feet.

Not that these things necessarily represent the 60's, but some of the best rock/n/roll anthems of all time have become theme songs for commercials, e.g., "Lust for Life" now the jingle for Royal Caribbean, "Fortunate Son" now the jingle for Wrangler Jeans, "London Calling" now the jingle for Ford. Let them wear Wrangler Jeans, drive Fords, and vacation on Royal Caribbean cruise lines, I still have an actual lust for life.

When the wrinklies tell me, "I told you so!" I still say, "yeah, right!"

No "generation" contained me. I am a creature of the interstices. It's a solitary way, but it is truly free. And let me tell you: free ain't cheap. Easy maybe, but not cheap. (big cheez-wiz eating grin)
