I had the great pleasure of knowing an Italian, born three days into the century last, came over in '20. Semi-literate, but a solid and successful guy who earned his way through, adhered to the old values.

He lived on the hill above Boeing field in Seattle. During the war there was a POW concentration camp there. Prisoners could get Sunday leaves. Charlie and Fannie hosted small bunches of paisans every week. Macarone' and olive oil or spaghetti and vino by the barrel.

Guess they usually had to walk back and forth. I have reason to suspect most staggered down the hill when returning to the camp.
