I talked to my son today about the economic conditions in Europe. He was in Florence this weekend and he said that there was a rather large protest.....some of the protestors were carrying Communist flags and he saw that himself. He also saw police in full riot gear. He said that Italy is in a world of hurt..........their gov't just bailed out their car industry in a big financial package. He heard about it on Italian CNN who were reporting on the give away.

Homes in Florence are now selling for half what they were selling for last summer when he was there. He had dinner with his Italian instructor from last summer who confirmed that the situation in Italy was worsening. Last summer you could buy a flat for 400k Eu.............same place now sells for 200k EU. It might be a good time to buy aplace there as one could probably rent it out fairly easily to tourists or students.

He said that a Swiss man was sitting next to him on the train back to Switzerland and the man told him that it's impossible for Swiss to get jobs. However, Switz is in better shape then most EU countries.
