Obviously one can't make a direct cause and effect answer to what one thing ended the depression, and I am certainly not a scholar on the subject.

But as I understand it, even before the US entered the war, American industry geared up massively to sell armaments and other supplies to the Brits and other European nations. Those industries stepped it up even more once the US entered the war, and the war also created a full employment situation in US.

What is your take on it?

How about the thought that America was selling their arms for profit to the Allied countries. Manufactured arms was big business back then. America sold planes,ships,tanks,munitions,clothing,arms,food...ect.
Lend lease comes to mind.
