The environmentalists have given themselves a bad name. It doesn't matter the idea...many of them want to shoot it down. Many of them would prefer that there were no people here on earth to cause it harm. Obama and his folks in Congress are about to pass a bill that is so HUGE that most people can't get their arms around it. Why isn't something like this, or this, in the $900 BILLION and rising bill? Yes, Solar Satellites would cost a good deal. Probably considerably more than the $1 Billion that Ben Bova discussed. But really....look at the possibilities. Eventual energy independence....possibility for the entire populations of earth to have energy at a reasonable cost....more new jobs created from the energy and maintaining it, to say nothing of the new jobs created from all the sidebar companies that would spring up from need.... If people weren't eventually spending so much on fuel for homes and autos, and manufacturing, our earth would be much more environmentally clean. Obviously the people in Congress haven't been thinking out of the box. Seems to me we need to do two things now....Maybe create Government banks for now to fund the loans needed, with the idea that private business would sort themselves out or go out of business. And we need some soaring ideas of work that is real and necessary, not just another shovel and more cement to tear down what we have and rebuild again... John F Kennedy gave the American people a dream, and we attained it. Why not do it again. The Pelosi's and Durbins of the world have no vision, and no leadership. They are exactly the wrong answer to our problem. IMO of course.
