the big names in the neocon movement do not seem to have much support, or even much toleration, for the welfare state- but they've got so many other nifty ideas about how to blow American money, they don't seem to give the welfare state much thought.

I never saw Podhertz (sp?) (or Bush) as much of an advocate for the welfare state (except, as I said, welfare for our military adventures.).

Can you produce any proof that they like the welfare state more than other conservatives? I don't recall any words by any of the recent big neos that would be much proof.
