So the long term major projects, good or bad, are really something that should be considered just about entirely separately from economic stimulus.

Oh I completely disagree. The biggest thing needed right now is NOT wheelbarrows of money going into the economy - like Krugman thinks - but rather a change in the publics thinking as to our chances of getting through this. A "the sky is falling, the sky is falling" does not accomplish that. What does is confidence and a measure of leadership pointing a new direction for America. Obama started to do that in his campaign, but lately he has been a little shaky.

My thinking is that since money will be spent - and you know it will be - then why not spend it on things that will benefit America in the long term?
