blues get back to work fast when housing picks up. Folks who can work with their hands will have jobs, albeit not as highpaying as before. Service folks, will have less to do.

I think you are spot on. Can't really bleed the blue collar workers a lot more, there are just some jobs that need to be done. White collar, though, well when the going gets really tough a lot of them are optional.
