the derivatives were the condom that shielded us from the truth. Options and stripped dirivitives don't hide the truth. They are simply instruments to trade them. They help more than the harm. Like shorting stock, they help prevent the stocks from balloning and falling even faster, they also improve liquidity. Options and stripped derivitives help provide liquidity to a market that would otherwise have very little. What was dumb was invsting in the high prime market, because these people could not qualify for a low prime loan because of their credit was not good enough. Somehow they can pay at higher interest rates? LOL Barney knew the government would have to bail them out. He just didn't expect it to be so big and all at once. He was counting on smaller ones that we wouldn't notice.
