Sure! It just seems so funny though!

That it does.

Esp. if its not just a matter of being poor financially, but also having low social status generally, not being at or near the top even the most narrow and specialized of status hierarchies. Having a fairly high position in a wide status hierarchies would be having political power, wealth, connections, wide spread respect etc. Being on top of a narrow status hierarchy is some form of being a big fish in a small pond. Perhaps your the local best at some game or activity, or your the head of some "popular" click in high school, or maybe your highly respected in some small fringe group or counterculture. Such "big fishes in small ponds" can still be snobs, but to people outside the group it seems funny. And if your not even such a "big fish", then being snobby seems funny to everyone (or at least everyone that's not angry as opposed to seeing it as funny/odd and/or funny/humorous).
