"Kind of disheartening to see liberals becoming Buchanan-like isolationists. Whatever happened to smart, thoughtful diplomacy?"

ans Bush

When you go thru a period of hyper-interventionism that does not go as planned and based on some false info, you get Knee Jerk Ted in action.
Same will happen when we see ourselves screwed from isolationism.

Realists exist on a spectrum and can come to different conclusions based on assessing facts or their individual ideoloiges but in the end enlightened national interest should trump all. But not with Bush, nor with our own Ted Buchanan.
Hell anyone whoever studied korea would come to our joint assessment. Its only the know-nothings out there who either want to nuke Kim Il Frak or abandon South Korea because it costs too much to maintain a committment that has served us well.
