Former project economics and acquisitions vice-president for zinc-miner Strategic Resource Acquisition Corp, Paul Chawrun has been hired as director of technical services, and Denis Caron has been appointed mining manager, the firm announcd on Monday. Before he joined Detour Gold, Caron was responsible for the rehabilitation of the Selbaie base-metals mining operation in north western Quebec for BHP Billiton. Prior to that, he was manager of the mines division at the openpit and underground mine. At Detour Lake, he will be responsible for the site infrastructure, establishing a health and safety programme, and overseeing the mine design, mine equipment selection and closure plan for the successful completion of the feasibility study. The company has also hired Patrick Rummel as environment manager, Detour Gold said. The firm has also retained a number of consultants, including mineral resource specialist Robert Crepeau, metallurgist Peter Kresin and metallurgist Stuart Mctavish. Last month, Detour announced that it had reached an agreement to acquire its largest shareholder, PDX Resources, by swapping each PDX share for 0,2571 of a Detour Gold common share. The Detour Lake project has measured and indicated resources of 10,76-million ounces, plus 2,4-million ounces in the inferred category. The company is scheduled to complete a feasibility study on the project this year.
