<<<It seems obvious that the Democrats did not sit down and craft a serious stimulus package aimed at actually addressing the serious economic issues. What they did was throw into a package as many aspects of their wish list as they could get into it. Obama failed to rein in Pelosi before it became embarrassing>>>

Obama provided a broad vision as to what he wanted to see in the stimulus package. Democrats in the House gave him 90% of what he wanted. Extremists tried to sneak some crap into the package. Obama is giving and asking Republicans for help to come up with a clean package.

If you are not a ruthless dictator, it is impossible to get all 535 individuals to agree. Obama will get 99% of what he is looking for but that still leaves about $8.5 billion in questionable spending.

Republicans can help if they have the leadership or they can just say no and sit on the sidelines. The ball is in their court.
