Absolutisimo. When Jefferson, Adams, Franklin et all were attempting to tap the conscience of society to identify the ‘sacred and undeniable / self evident’ truth, they hit on something quite profound that goes beyond the specific rights/freedoms identified.

That is, we do recognize/identify-with certain truths about our existence when we draw from the universal self consciousness and can presume to prescribe that as a societal consciousness. I think we all get that but this (collective conscience) is often confused with societal values, which are subject to stylistic trends. If for example, society decides everybody must eat bubblegum ice cream on Wednesday, or go to a global warming seminar as punishment, I’d probably stay home and fast as a conscientious objection.
