JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Aim-listed Uranium Resources is looking to identify precious metal targets, with short development cycle requirements to expand its asset base and core offerings.

MD Alex Gostevskikh said that a number of jurisdictions and opportunities were currently being reviewed.

He added that Uranium Resources’ joint venture partners Western Metals continued to advance the company’s three Tanzanian uranium projects in order to realise their economic potential.

“In addition, we recently established a new working relationship with mining major Rio Tinto, having signed an agreement allowing them to explore the coal potential of our license areas in southern Tanzania. We believe this agreement adds value and underpins the strength of our exploration portfolio, as we gain exposure to any economic coal deposits discovered in the region, while not exposing ourselves to high levels of capital expenditure,” Gostevskikh said.

He noted that with the company’s healthy cash position, an aggressive 2009 exploration and development programme which was in place, a recently strengthened management team, and a pipeline of new opportunities made the company look toward the future with confidence.
