the public won't ever really know the answer to that one. it all depends what the Feds intentions are, which is the real question.

It "works" to reduce unemployment and thus spread the pain
to the society as a whole. An example of this was Bush's great
reflation, 2002-2007. The American economy really went down hard,
it's just more pronounced now. It will bottom some day,
but we need some serious restructuring work.
