Hey, Ralph! Where Do You Want To Go Today? slate.com

Michael Kinsley, writing from Redmond no doubt. Good to see someone trying to maintain a sense of humor here, I'm doing my best too, even if it gets a little acidic at times.

But the undoubted highlight of the day will be an audience with Microsoft's CEO, which is scheduled to take place in the Throne Room of his new house. The original plan called for Nader to enter on his knees, fall prostrate, and apologize profusely for impugning the company's motives. He would then be taken off and melted into software. But all this changed when we told the CEO about Nader's mandatory-air-bags-for-computers idea. "Mandatory?" he said. "Require people to buy software? What a marketing concept! It fits in perfectly with our global stra ... er, our vision for humanity. I like the way this man thinks!"

You see? Why can't we all just get along?

<Sounds like it's time for Sal to give Liz Enbysk the lecture on how it's unethical to be ethical in business. >

Many New York style confidentiality contracts have a similar clause. It serves to put the company on guard in the case of a government inquisition and is a good business practice.

Hi Daniel. RE: report any planned contact with government officials.

What is wrong with that? If they have to contact government officials because they have just found out one of their officers broke the law, so it may impact the contracting company (Compaq in this case) negatively. The partner, if not notified, has no ability to take action, like protect it's assets and reputation.

It doesn't say, "the contact shall be terminated if you contact the government".

Nice try with the spin, but I don't buy it. Business is seamy, period.

Don't you think?

Jon :)
