If you start at 1929, then it is true that GDP didn't get back there until sometime in 1936 or so before turning down again the following year.

But if you start with FDR's term in 1933, then the chart shows that it grew nicely until the downturn. That is not the picture that many people claim.

I think most people have had it with boom times and bust times. Slower and steadier is better, IMHO.
