I wish there were some way to guess what the Chinese will do with all those Treasuries. Should they decide to convert even a small amount of them into gold . . . well, we know what that would do.

Gold is almost at a level that it reached when crude oil was above $100, and when the dollar seemed poised to drop below 70.

I think the Chinese would be smart to take some losses on Treasuries and buy up any remaining oil rights that they might be able to get.
