schumer said during the debate 'the american public is OVERWHELMINGLY in favor of the stimulus plan' A stimulus plan, not this porkapalooza. I think Democrats have been hoist by their own petard. They spent so much time arguing against Bush deficits that they actually scored points with the American people as newfound adherents of fiscal discipline. Now, first chance they get when they finally control both White House and Congress, look at what they've come up with! They reveal themselves as hypocrites of the highest degree. Turns out it was only Bush spending they opposed - their own, well, that's an entirely different story. Trouble is, the American people bought the line about needing fiscal discipline. They thought the Dems meant it, and were only bending the rules for emergency stimulus. Watch for Congress' poll numbers to sink even lower - and start to contaminate Obama's, who has done nothing effective to check them.
