Somebody is behind on their taxes, they hire TaxMasters to negotiate with the IRS, and presto a $20,000 tax bill gets reduced to $300.

Because if you ask the IRS for ABATEMENT they will often grant it for a person with limited history of problems. These guys are just getting paid to do what people can do themselves.

Explain to me this: How do these guys like TaxMasters make their money? Somebody is behind on their taxes, they hire TaxMasters to negotiate with the IRS, and presto a $20,000 tax bill gets reduced to $300.

They take a $5,000 fee up front plus a % of what they save the taxpayer. The usual fee, including the percentage, normally totals... $5,000.

I know people who have hired these outfits. They have never been happy.

What's that old Roman saying? Caveat emptor?
