Food stamps are socialistic!! Not even close. They are, thank heavens, safety net provisions for people who would otherwise starve.

"Safety net provisions for people who would otherwise starve" doesn't contradict or refute "socialistic".

But then in the classical and more restrictive version of "socialistic", food stamps would not be particularly socialistic, because while they are paid for by the government, you get the private sector giving people the food in order to get a profit.

If the government directly handed out the food it would be more socialist (the distribution part would be 100% socialist), if the government also produced the food in the first place than the whole scheme would be 100% socialist.

But of course that doesn't happen with food stamps, the government pays for the food, but doesn't go beyond that.
