"also, many of us are not aware that california teachers pay 8% of their salary into STRS retirement. these pensions are not "free."

the school districts kick in 8.25% and the state kicks in another 4.5%. if they work 30 years, they get 90% of their highest salary. it's been 20 years or longer since the teachers have been asked to provide more toward their pensions while the taxpayers contributions keep rising.
