nah, my thought is it relates to the economic contraction at home and the unwinding of the carry, both yen favorable and neither reflective of currency traders per se

Japan does have over $1T in surplus. They have stated that they stand ready to help other countries with debt problems. That's gotta be a big reason why the yen has had this run but..... it is killing their exports. The last few days action smells a lot like intervention. Japan may have finally had enough of the yen going up.
