Lots of apocalyptic rhetoric being vented; no big surprise in Washington. Part of it is certainly anger from powerlessness after such a colossal political screw-up on that side of the aisle. The rest is the confusion we all have at this unprecedented situation.

I see two possible general outcomes here; the worst case is that the partisan sniping escalates and drags us back to business as usual. More interesting is a stimulus bill and TARP reshaping on Monday that brings in the moderate Republicans for a real governing consensus.

The ankle-biting from the right will continue regardless. But if the average moderate voter can look to Washington and see sensible action taken where needed, Obama could be a few steps down the road to reshaping our politics.

I tune out 98% of the sniping I hear for now. Results will be what matters. (Clearly, I am no threat to take Krauthammer's job anytime soon, not enough passion for howling at every perceived slight and fault in the universe. But I remain very glad I am not him, that bitter with everything.)
