I don't fault anyone for it. And I'm not sure the government can clean it up so easily as just spending money.

As you probably know I've long maintained that presidents have relatively little influence over the economy. Sure, they can make decisions that have major impact -- like going to war (which probably helps the economy most of the time). But you don't go to war to improve the economy (although many Ds would argue that point).

Presidents can use the bully pulpit but economic cycles happen. There is little Bush could do, or Obama, that will turn this thing around other than instilling confidence in the American people that they should go out and run up their credit cards.

I think most people are drawing in their finances now, and you can't blame them. For months we've been told we're on the brink of economic collapse.
