I read an article somewhere talking of the horses being cut loose on federal lands out west. With the banning of the slaughter of cull horses for meat there is nowhere for those animals to go so they are being dumped to die slow painful deaths as they have no idea of how to survive winter without being fed.

Another in the law of unintended consequences. I don't want horse meat for myself but it is eaten world wide and slaughtering makes far more sense the letting them starve.
