Bush talked to Putin as an equal, but he treated Russia as a third world country. Russia went from a nascent democracy when Bush came in to whatever it is now, but it AIN'T no democracy. The KEY is that the Russians are still pragmatists. Obama has to find out what the Russians want and what they can give. The problem in Euroland is that the Germans RUN everything and insist that everyone follow their lead. They might actually be right on that. If their Union breaks up, so be it.
