i find it odd that people think pro athletes should be heros and gods. heck, they're only humans trying to make some money.

money making athletes are gifted individuals, despite drug enhancements. many of us tried to get to the pro level and just couldn't make it. some of us had the genetic talent, but blew out a joint or two and were put to pasture. most of us who competed recognize how difficult these drug decisions are.

years ago a friend was so excited to find dmso to treat an athlete who was down with an injury. the athlete had trained extremely hard and developed an overuse injury that threatened her season, college recruitment, and scholarship. my friend's dilemma centered on choosing between a questionable healing agent that could revive this athlete's goals, or sitting idly by. it's not the simple decision that most suggest it is or pretend it should be.

in my opinion, pro athletes are performance artists and should be treated as such. if we test jocks we need test musicians, dancers, and anyone else who dares get in front of crowds for pay. how would we like it if springsteen was not allowed to play because he failed a creative enhancement drug? -ng-

maybe we should begin with steroid testing of yo yo ma. -g-
