<This is what the Democrats failed to do when the issue of going to war in Iraq came up.>

Exactly... they were more worried about what the public thought than what was right. Sometimes you have to do what's right even if you get tossed out on your ear (which some would have!).

That's the job of opposing counsels in a court of law, argue to win regardless of what the truth or the best outcome may be.

Our representatives are supposed to be coming up with a bill that will benefit the country. In this case, the country needs the economic free fall to stop. The 'opposition' has tried their tactics with massive tax cuts, a war for profit and 15% taxes on hedge fund manager income and this is the mess it has created.

Obama's job is to get the job done and roll right over the 'opposition' in order to get it done. If he is coming down a bit in the polls, it is because he is listening TOO MUCH to the opposition and not enough to the people who won.

I suspect the opposition thinks that it is winning brownie points and damaging Obama but I believe they are doing themselves in by looking like obstructionists who gave massive amounts of taxpayer money to blundering corporations and now refuse to do something for the good of everyone else. I suspect they are smirking right about now but they are looking petulant and selfish in the face of Obama's overtures to them.

The unemployment numbers are horrible, the fall in auto sales is unbelievable, parts of the country have official unemployment rates of 15% and unofficial employment rates must be near depression levels. The opposition is amusing itself over this but people are getting desperate and it is not funny.

Iraq was in the aftermath of 911 when the entire country was frightened out of its wits. Too bad that Bush wanted to go to war for profit instead of giving us nationalized health care. At that point in time, he could have asked for virtually anything and gotten it done.

The situation is similar although the shock has been a longer time in coming. Obama has a small window of opportunity to get big things done and appealing to the losing side is an utter waste of time which is what I think he is finding out this week.
