[GTE (NYSE:GTE) says to reschedule analysts meeting]

STAMFORD, Conn., Oct 24 (Reuters) - GTE Corp, one of the suitors seeking to acquire MCI Communications Corp (NASDAQ:MCIC), said Friday it postponed its analysts meeting scheduled for November 17-18 in Irving, Texas.

The company said it plans to reschedule the meeting for the first half of 1998. GTE was not immediately available to comment on the reason for the postponement.

GTE recently launched a $40 per share cash bid for MCI that competes with an earlier stock bid from WorldCom Inc (NASDAQ:WCOM), valued at $41.50 a share, and MCI's existing merger agreement with British Telecommunications Plc (ISEL:BT), valued at about $36.75 a share.
