Eric Oberg, the guy who wrote the piece I posted half of a couple months back, wrote a followup piece wherein he laid out a couple of issues with the advertising (specifically the prospectus) as well. The risk factors section puts a lot more emphasis on the foreign-investment aspects than the volatility. And what is in the section on volatility risk proved to significantly understate how bad it was in practice: for example, they cite underperformance by about 9% in market volatility of 40%.

Oberg also touched on my short/short idea for capturing the slippage -- apparently that strategy blows up should the underlying index go straight down or straight up.
