I may look at eduction a bit differently.

I always try to look at things from the perspective of the society. We live in a democarcy, so what is the most important ingrediants for a successful society? And informed populace is number one.

This means the most important thing our society can do is ensure a highly educated populace.

So what is education? As reality involves a relative perspective, IMO, that means a strong liberal arts education.

Everyone can learn and benefit from a general understanding of history, political science, economcs, psychology, geography anthropology, philopophy and psychology.

It is importat for our society to know what the ancient Greeks had figured out and what their ideas were. What happened in the dark ages and why the age of enlightenment is called that.

Then after people have a working knowledge of the above they are ready to do whatever it is they want to do. but not until then. That all citizens have a working knowledge of the above is essential to a strong democracy.

Everyone can learn. And many who can learn do not. I have worked with doctors all my life. Usually they are smart as hell, and relatively speaking as ignorant as hell of how the world really works.

Doctors have an inadequate liberal arts education.
